Get to Know | Pavan
In this release, we are pleased to introduce Pavan Birendra Srivastava, Compositing Artist at our Mumbai studio, who combines his eye for detail and passion for storytelling to bring together seamless and striking visuals on screen.
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT FOLKS?
I work as a VFX Compositor, where I combine different layers of visuals and effects to make scenes look realistic. My role includes enhancing shots, matching lighting and color, and ensuring that all visual elements blend naturally together.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE FIELD OF VISUAL EFFECTS?
I got interested in visual effects when I met some artists who were working in this field. Watching their work really inspired me, and I decided that this is what I wanted to do. After that, I joined MAAC in Mira Road, Mumbai, and completed a course in VFX to build my skills professionally.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING IN VFX?
What I enjoy most about working in VFX is the creativity and problem-solving involved. I love turning raw footage into something visually stunning and realistic. It feels great to see my work come alive on screen and know that I helped make a scene more impactful.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO IS CONSIDERING A CAREER IN VFX?
My advice would be to stay patient and keep learning. The VFX field needs both creativity and technical skills, so focus on improving both. Practice regularly, watch breakdowns, and learn from other artists. It’s not easy at the beginning, but if you stay consistent and passionate, you’ll definitely grow and enjoy the journey.
THE FIVE MAIN VALUES OF FOLKS ARE CREATIVITY, COLLABORATION, EXCELLENCE, SIMPLICITY AND KINDNESS. WHICH ONE DO YOU MOST IDENTIFY WITH?
I most identify with creativity. In VFX, creativity is what makes every shot unique and exciting. I enjoy finding new ways to solve visual problems and make scenes look more realistic and appealing. Creativity keeps me motivated and helps me give my best in every project.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THE CITY YOU WORK IN? IF YOU COULD TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PITCH BLACK LOCATION, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?
What I like most about Mumbai is its energy and opportunities. The city is full of creative people and production houses, which makes it a great place to grow in the VFX industry.
If I ever got a chance to transfer, I would like to go to Vancouver, because it’s one of the biggest hubs for VFX and offers a chance to work on international projects and learn new techniques.
WHAT IS SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW?
People might be surprised to know that I play cricket. It’s a hobby that not only keeps me active but also helps me connect with many colleagues and friends outside of work.
IS THERE A FOLKS PROJECT YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYED?
I particularly enjoyed working on Chad Powers. It was a very smooth and enjoyable experience, and I learned a lot while working on it. The project allowed me to enhance my skills and gain valuable insights into the VFX process.
