Get to Know | Parisa

In this release, we are pleased to introduce Parisa Foroutan, one of our talented compositing artists and the longest-standing member of the FOLKS Toronto team.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
I am a Compositing artist at FOLKS Toronto. My role is to seamlessly blend multiple elements into a single cohesive shot, which is the final stage of post-production. Beyond that, the role involves continuous learning, problem-solving, tweaking, integrating elements, and constant troubleshooting. It’s a perfect blend of creativity, science, and puzzle-solving.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE VFX INDUSTRY?
I’ve always been captivated by the surreal and magical worlds that can be created through motion pictures. I studied graphic design during my undergraduate years and pursued a graduate program in intermedia art, where I created video art, animation, and web-based interactive videos. After graduation, I sought a video editing position, but when the company I interviewed with didn’t have an opening, they offered me a compositor role instead. In many ways, I stumbled into working as a compositor by chance, and I was fortunate to receive guidance and support from incredible mentors.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT FOLKS?
I have had the privilege of being a part of FOLKS for over five years now, and in that time I have grown to deeply appreciate the company’s collaborative and creative spirit. What really sets FOLKS apart is the sense of unity within the team; everyone is patient, understanding and genuinely supportive of each other. Through the growth of the company since I joined, these core values have remained steady and in fact have strengthened over time. More than just colleagues, we feel like a family, and it’s this close-knit, positive environment that makes working here so special.

IF YOU HAD TO NAME A COLLEAGUE WHO INSPIRES YOU, WHO WOULD IT BE?
If I had to pick one colleague, Toshiko Miura would undoubtedly be at the top of my list. As a compositing supervisor, Toshiko is patient, and supportive—qualities that make her a great mentor. I’ve learned so much from her over the course of our work together. Whenever I have a question, I know I can always count on her for guidance, and I never hesitate to reach out.

WHICH SHOT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
I am really proud of the shots I contributed to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It was a complex blend of techniques, including CGI, rotomation, and set extensions. Each shot required a careful balance of creative and technical work. The process also involved maintaining continuity across multiple shots, which presented its own unique set of challenges. It also was a rewarding experience to collaborate with such a talented team!
