THE CREATOR

The creator invites us into a world of stunning landscapes, diverse cultures, and complex characters. A world where humans, simulants and robots could coexist. The simulants were brought to life by filming the actors on location and capturing their honest reactions. Their movements and performance nuances were then translated onto our digital simulated assets. We proceeded to remove the necessary human elements and replace them with robotic components. Custom rigging tools that leverage UV and machine-generated motion vectors were used to anchor the practical components to the rigid mechanical ones. This costume set up was crucial for our compositing team to meticulously analyze every interaction between metal and flesh, resulting in the seamless performance.

The Creator’s classic approach to filmmaking involved using real locations instead of sets. To seamlessly integrate the robotic parts with the practical environments, lighting played a crucial role. We had to place the robots and simulants in various locations and times of day, so we approached each shot with a unique and handcrafted lighting setup. To perfect the lighting, we provided AOV-like groups to our compositing team. This enabled them to add additional lighting timing events, such as moving spotlights in the nightclub, and creating realistic shadow interactions for practical elements, like hair and fabrics. By carefully crafting the lighting and compositing for each scene, we were able to help create a world where robots, stimulates and humans can coexist.
