Get to Know | Lorena

In this release, we are proud to introduce Lorena, VFX Coordinator at FOLKS Bogotá, who brings her excellent communication and positive energy to every stage of production.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT ROLE AT FOLKS?
In my current role as a coordinator, I truly feel at the heart of the production team. This position not only gives me the opportunity to get to know every team member, but also allows me to deeply understand the needs of the project and, most importantly, those of our talented artists. I work to facilitate communication, ensuring that supervisors, artists, production, and editorial are all in sync. I firmly believe that a good working environment is the key to success; that’s why I always strive to maintain a positive energy that drives us to meet deadlines while still enjoying every step of the creative process. On a typical day, I’m immersed in a variety of tasks: taking notes in dailies, coordinating deliveries to clients, doing rounds with the artists, among others. The most important thing for me is to be attentive to every detail, to ensure everything flows as smoothly as possible. Each day is a new adventure full of learning, and I’m excited to contribute to the magic we create together.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE VFX INDUSTRY?
Seeing projects from a different perspective, rather than just from the set, is incredibly interesting. Gradually, I entered the world of post-production and realized that there are many paths to explore. I find the technological development in the VFX world fascinating. It’s a space where creativity and technique merge to create amazing results. What truly drew me to this industry was witnessing how visual effects have evolved over time; every year brings new innovations, and it’s inspiring to see not only the final result but also to understand and be part of the entire process that transforms a vision into reality.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO IS CONSIDERING A CAREER IN YOUR FIELD IN VFX?
I would say that a career in VFX is a journey of continuous learning, and in production, it’s important to be willing to learn about the entire process. Understanding each step along the way gives you a more comprehensive view and helps you better understand the artists, which is the foundation for good communication. I also believe that valuing the work we do, maintaining an open mindset towards change, and recognizing that there are always solutions is essential.

WHICH ONE OF YOUR COWORKERS INSPIRES YOU MOST AND WHY?
Since I joined FOLKS, I have been inspired to work with Lina Gordillo, producer. I admire her knowledge of the broad world of SG in production, her expertise in budget execution, and her great ability to anticipate problems. She always seeks proactive solutions and knows the team very well, which not only helps our projects run smoothly but also creates a collaborative work environment. Her leadership and approach are a constant example of how experience and creativity can go hand in hand in production.

I also want to express my admiration for Andrea Espinal, our Head of Studio, as well as Camila Samper, Alejandro Currea, and Angelica Murillo for their outstanding production skills. And big thank you to my fellow coordinators Karen, Milena, Aaron, and Juan for our incredible teamwork.

THE FIVE MAIN VALUES OF FOLKS ARE CREATIVITY, COLLABORATION, EXCELLENCE, SIMPLICITY, AND KINDNESS. WHICH ONE DO YOU MOST IDENTIFY WITH?
For me, being kind and having empathy towards others is fundamental. This value becomes a superpower that allows me to give 100% every day. Moreover, it goes hand in hand with collaboration; when we all understand that we are in the same boat, rowing towards a common goal, it creates an environment where teamwork thrives, and everyone can contribute their best within their department.

IF YOU WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PITCH BLACK COMPANY LOCATION, WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
They all seem amazing to me, but I would love to work in Barcelona, Toronto, or New York. Traveling to meet new people, learn about their workflows, and their culture would be a truly enriching experience.

IS THERE A FOLKS PROJECT YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYED? PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION AS WE WILL INCLUDE A SHOT OF THE PROJECT.
Pedro Páramo was a very challenging project that provided me with many valuable lessons. It taught me the importance of teamwork and the ability to adapt to change. I admire the work of all the supervisors and artists who contributed to the project with their creative vision, talent, and dedication, as well as the efforts of the editorial team and my own team. After experiencing the process, I’m excited to see the final result that we all built together.
