Get to Know | Juliana
In this release, we are pleased to introduce Juliana, Human Resources Manager at FOLKS, who ensures the well-being of our employees in our Bogotá studio.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT ROLE AT FOLKS?
I am the Human Resources Manager at FOLKS Bogotá. In our studio, my role is to ensure people's well-being and guarantee that their life cycle within the company is a smooth one, from start to finish. As a Human Resources manager, I strive every day to meet the needs of our employees, but also to guarantee standards and procedures.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE VFX INDUSTRY?
First it was the opportunity that Andrea Espinal gave me with to learn more about an industry that was growing in our country. The idea of contributing to something as significant as providing opportunities for more formal employment for people in Colombia was what drove me the most to join the company. Then, when I had the chance to get to know all that the teams do every day... it was just magical to me, and helping these people become more connected to their work made me love my job at FOLKS even more.
WHICH OF YOUR COLLEAGUES INSPIRES YOU MOST AND WHY?
I will say Juliana Alviar, because as a department manager, she helps me so much in getting to know the needs of our staff, and she has managed to gain the trust of our artists so that we can support them as best we can throughout the process of our projects.
THE FOLKS VALUES ARE CREATIVITY, COLLABORATION, EXCELLENCE, SIMPLICITY AND KINDNESS. WHICH ONE DO YOU MOST IDENTIFY WITH AND WHY?
The FOLKS value that resonates most with me is simplicity. I constantly strive to simplify tasks for people, as this helps us to achieve our goals more effectively. Since some processes within my department can be complex, often involving standards and policies, I see the importance of making things simpler and quicker for our employees.
IF YOU WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PITCH BLACK COMPANY LOCATION, WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
I'd choose Montreal because it's at the heart of our business and offers exposure to international VFX culture. I'd like to go there to understand the standards and quality we aim to deliver to our customers. There I'd definitely get an insight into the cultural dynamics and strategies that drive team growth, which would ultimately benefit us in Latin America.
WHAT IS SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW?
I love numbers! I like anything that helps us to have more tangible data... By profession, I'm an International Business Manager and I've always seen the importance of data in companies and in different processes, so being able to apply this to Human Resources is what I love most. Also, on a personal note... I'm the new mom of a beautiful 7-month-old baby girl; and she's my number one driver for everything.
OUTSIDE OF YOUR WORK IN THE VFX INDUSTRY, WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES OR INTERESTS?
I love traveling around with my family. I enjoy reading and attending workshops on self work trends. And right now, I'm learning all about development initiatives for my baby girl.
IS THERE A FOLKS PROJECT YOU PARTICULARLY LIKED?
I'd say 1923. I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but I can't wait to see our team's work on a production like this, because I love these series that include historical and cultural content, and with such great actors as Harrison Ford.
