    President / VFX Supervisor

    With a career spanning over 20 years in the industry, Sebastien has established himself as a visionary in the VFX community and one of the most creative storytellers in the business. His artistic confidence and keen eye for detail inspire our team to do the impossible, every day. Sebastien has won 3 Leo awards and 1 Gemini for Best Visual Effects and Best Visual Effects in a dramatic series. He has also cumulated over a dozen award nominations for Primetime Emmy; Gemini; Leo and VES awards.

  • Philippe Thibault

    VP / VFX Supervisor

    Philippe is the Vice President and founding partner of Folks. With over 15 years of experience in the industry, he has a burning passion for his work and infuses it into everything he undertakes. His collaborative approach and innate ability to make anyone feel comfortable means you’ll have a knowledgeable partner on your team, but also a new friend on board for the ride. Philippe was nominated twice for an Emmy and won a Gemini award for Best Visual Effects.

  • Matthew Belbin

    VFX Supervisor

    Matt is our Head of Production and VFX Supersivor, as well as being one of the founding partners of Folks. Since day one, Matt has overseen the entire operations in the studio. His ability to maintain a high level of organization and his leadership skills are second to none. He has been nominated for an Emmy as VFX coordinator and won a Gemini for Best Visual Effects. Prior to joining Folks, Matt worked as digital colourist and VFX editor at Anthem Visual Effects.

  • Amélie Poitras

    Executive Producer

    Amélie’s extensive experience as Production Accountant and Financial Controller enables our clients to feel completely at ease. By partnering closely with your team, she will happily guide you through any technical intricacies from the early bidding stages to the completion of your project. As our executive VFX Producer, Amelie has a clear understanding of the VFX process and uncanny problem-solving skills. She oversees all aspects of a project from liaising through the initial bid, planning and scheduling resources, to working with our VFX team to ensure each project is delivered on time and on budget.

  • Marine Lelièvre

    Head of VFX Film Relations & Strategy

    Marine is a passionate person, and very dedicated to the film & gaming industries since 20 years, holding positions such as VP Strategy & International Alliances, VFX/Animation Conference Director, Program Chair, Producer; VFX-MONTREAL, QFTC, Quebec Film & TV Council / BCTQ, effects MTL, Ubisoft… Marine’s forward-thinking vision enables her to solidify long-term international business relationships based on trust! In addition to be the person who launched effects MTL (the biggest international VFX/Animation conference east-coast North America), she is involved in many industry boards of directors; Visual Effects Society, Women in Games, Digital Spring and organizations, WIA, WIFT … Marine is really imaginative, demonstrates a profound knowledge and respect of the creative process and the production. She is someone who is very appreciated in the industry and shares FOLKS VFX values.

  • Andrea Espinal

    VFX Supervisor

    Andrea is an acclaimed visual effects compositor, and a true art enthusiast. Early in her career, her art was influenced by a distinct interest in video, which she pursued through exploring multiple techniques and software as a medium for creative expression. She was then quickly introduced to visual effects, spending 8 years in Montreal where she specialized in vfx for cinema, as Senior Compositor. Her experience over the years at top level studios has brought her significant artistic practice, keeping her on the edge.  Andrea’s artistic background and structured workflow provide her a unique understanding of the vfx process and the ability to undertake any challenge.

  • Gunnar Hansen

    VFX Supervisor

    With roots in traditional animation and pioneering computer graphics in the early 1980's, Gunnar went on to be a founding member of three successful Montréal VFX ventures (Buzz, Voodoo Arts and FXCartel). He applied his passion, common sense and multi-talents as supervisor, designer, tech advisor, animator and lead compositor for high profile movies and series, such as Jack Ryan, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Riddick, 007: Quantum of Solace, The Grey, Quantico and Across the Universe. He brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience from decades of production-side supervision, along with a healthy dose of humour.

  • Jaime Guzman

    VFX Supervisor

    Jaime Guzman has been an active member of the VFX industry for over 18 years. He began his career through an interest in motion graphics and visual effects, teaching himself the skill-set that lead him to become compositing director within just 2 years. Over the span of his career, he delivered on a variety of challenges relating to motion graphics, compositing, tv branding, colour grading and most recently, vfx supervision. Jaime is a natural team leader whose commitment to his team’s well-being harvests the best quality of work.

  • Laurent Spillemaecker

    Head of 2D / VFX Supervisor

    As Head of 2D and VFX Supervisor, Laurent leads the development and growth of the 2D department as well as broaden the executive team’s expertise. Laurent’s tasteful aesthetic and in-depth technical knowledge make him an outstanding artist. With a career spanning over twenty years, Spillemaecker has established himself as a pillar of the visual effects community. Before joining Folks, he dedicated 10 years of his career to Rodeo FX where he was instrumental in helping the former start-up reach 500 employees. Prompted by his natural leadership, he oversaw several of the studio’s world-class projects as VFX Supervisor and Head of 2D.

  • Alexandra Vaillancourt

    Senior VFX producer

    With 10 years of experience in the industry, Alexandra is a key asset of our production process. As Senior VFX Producer, she oversees the early development phase of VFX projects. She can help you in breaking down scripts, budgeting, recommending processes for production and post-production. Alexandra started her career as Production Assistant and worked her way up to Coordinator, Line Producer and Producer. She has been nominated twice at the Canadian Screen Awards in Visual Effects related categories.

    VFX Producer

    With more than 20 years of experience in the post-production and visual effects industries (Unity, RodeoFX, Mels...), Marie-Josée is known for her ability to complete major projects and constantly innovate to achieve excellence and optimize performance. Natural leader, while putting creative solutions in place at every stage of the process, she inspires work teams through her sense of commitment and deftly conveys the mission of the company. Winner of an AEAF Award in 2018 as part of the Justin Timberlake Supplies and Nominee for Via Rail 40 years.

  • Sylvain Lebeau

    Head of CG

    Sylvain, a.k.a Sly, is a profound artist with an astonishing track record for creating complex and stunning CG imagery. The twenty-plus-year veteran brings a wealth of experience to Folks’ CG department. Thanks to his cutting edge knowledge of technology, he is devoted to designing and perfecting our Pipeline. Before joining Folks as Head of CG, Sly spent 12 years at SHED, a company he co-founded. Over the years, he held multiple leading roles on world class VFX projects. His curiosity and creative vision make him an undeniable leader in our team and the whole community.

  • Gabriel Beauvais

    CG Supervisor

    As Asset Supervisor, Gabriel takes on the creative challenge of developing and supervising all steps of modeling. His passion for anatomy additionned to his comprehension of shapes and movement allow him to create realistic characters with distinctive backstories. Gabriel lent his expertise to projects such as The Jungle Book, Fantastic Beasts and where to find them, Tarzan, Paddington and much more. Before joining Folks, he also dabbled in entrepreneurship by co-founding Shed MTL, a studio specialized in character development for advertising.

  • Louis-Philippe Clavet

    CG Supervisor

    Louis-Philippe had various roles in the visual effects industry, such as compositor, simulation artist, VFX Supervisor, and finally CG Supervisor. Being very passionate about sharing his expertise, he helps professionals to acquire new skills and knowledge at NAD school, where he teaches procedural workflows and simulation for visual effects as well as compositing. He applied his multiple talents to great shows such as Arrival, Junior Majeur, Dans la Brume, Zoe and Bad Blood. Being very involved in the community, he has also been running the Montreal Houdini User Group since its very beginning in 2015. Besides his CG Supervisor position at FOLKS, Louis-Philippe is currently a Master's student at NAD school. His research will lead to a better understanding of the practices of visual effects artists using procedural workflows.

  • Guillaume Pelletier

    3D Supervisor

    Guillaume  joined FOLKS to oversee the 3D department and share his vast knowledge with our animation team. His specialization in character animation combined to his natural leadership make him the best resource for all things animated. His teaching experience at the University of Digital Arts (UQAC) provides him valuable insight on how to collaborate and guide his team through any challenge. Guillaume has been an active member of the visual effects industry for more than 12 years, which he explored both in advertising and film. During his career, he worked on Sobeys’ IGA advertising campaign and most recently on Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

  • Jonathan Laborde

    FX Supervisor

    Who said mathematics are boring? Certainly not our FX Supervisor, Jonathan, who has got a track record of about 15 years in the industry and a great background in traditional arts and computer science! Starting as a 3D Generalist, he quickly focused on roles more related to his passion; like being an FX Artist. Since Then, supervising many FX artists on various feature films, such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Warcraft: The Beginning, IT, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, show that Jonathan has got a great ability to mix artistic and technical sides of the craft.

  • Samuel Bissonnette

    Lead Pipeline TD

    Samuel was initially a 3D Generalist, then moved to even more technical roles over his career. Indeed, his wide range of expertise from Featured Animation, Video Game Cinematics and VFX made him an indispensable Technical Director. Designing pipeline tools for creative folks was always Samuel’s speciality, thanks for his great understanding of the reality of production. Well known as a self-taught person, he also devotes his energy to develop FOLKS’ Color pipeline to make sure every step of production is perfect for final deliveries.

  • Mark Fordham

    Art Director

    Faithful to his title of Art Director, Mark is an accomplished artist, in every sense of the word. Throughout the 80s and the 90s, Mark's work as a painter and sculptor was showcased in many galleries in Toronto and New York. Matte painting is a major influence on his art and Fine Art inspires his matte painting. Mark has had the opportunity to work with many of the major studios in Toronto as a Matte painter and Concept Artist. His work can be seen in many television and feature projects including the Underworld and the Resident Evil franchises, Hannibal, Scandal, Murdoch Mysteries, London has fallen, Ray Donovan, American Gods to only name a few.

  • Moika Sabourin

    Art Director

    Art Director and experienced Concept Artist, Moika stands out thanks to her creative calibre and unparalleled motivation. Having started her career by studying and working in scenography, she shifted into a Visual Effects curriculum by studying at the NAD School of digital art. Moika’s technical skill and creative thinking led her to several positions within Matte Painting and concept art before joining Folks in 2012, where she ensures that our team exceeds all expectations under her creative direction.

  • Alexis Belanger

    Compositing Supervisor

    Alexis has been working in the VFX industry for the past decade having role such as Flame artist in advertising to start with, then moving to the Film industry, being a Compositor and finally becoming Compositing supervisor. He was involved on many high profile feature films such as Birdman, Fast and Furious franchise, Downsizing and Men in Black International. His attention to details and great leadership skills makes him a very valuable addition to any project.

    Lionel has been an integral part of Folks since the company’s early stages. After obtaining his degree from the Vancouver Art Institute, he began working for Anthem Visual Effects followed by The Embassy. His extensive technical knowledge and ability to find creative solutions to any challenge make him a compositing guru within our team. Lionel’s signature work is nurtured by his distinctive artistic flair. His humble nature and approach make him a natural leader appreciated by everyone he encounters. Lionel was nominated for 6 awards and won a Gemini Award for “Best Visual Effects” on the TV series Sanctuary.

  • Simon Devault

    Compositing Supervisor

    Simon has been lending his expertise to Folks for over 6 years. He began his career as VFX Compositor at Rodeo FX before joining forces with Folks on the studio’s early projects. His vision and technical skills executed through passionate work quickly led him to oversee his own team and projects as Compositing and VFX Supervisor. Both a digital artist and a talented photographer, Simon has an undeniable passion for images. He takes a particular interest in the story hidden behind each shot and channels this vision into his work.

    As a true technology enthusiast, Bruno cumulates over twenty years of expertise in computer technologies. His career has taken him through several facets of the media industry where he has worked at TQS and TVA, Météomédia and Mikros Image, where he entered the VFX field before joining the ranks of Folks. Bruno's undeniable effectiveness is based on his broad understanding of the reality of visual effects and its . His great devotion to his work as well as his technical knowledge make him an indispensable asset in the company.

  • Pénéloppe Fisette

    HR & Talent Acquisition Manager

    Fresh out of University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Industrial Relations, Peneloppe joined the Folks family. As an HR and Talent Acquisition Manager, she developed and broadened recruitment, hiring and administrative staff management strategies within the company. Growing up in a family working actively in the film industry, she combines at Folks her passion for movies and TV series to which she adds her desire to explore labor law and the human spirit.

  • Rembrandt Van Rijn

    Financial Controller

    Rembrandt is an experienced financial manager and internal accountant. With over seven years of experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements he has become an expert in analyzing a company’s financial health and performances. Originally from Holland, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree at Hogeschool Utrech followed by his accounting certificate at McGill University. His meticulous work along with his vast experience are only surpassed by his overwhelming energy and cheerfulness.
